Marceline Mason
Alla Prima Notte
November 20 - December 18, 2021

Marceline Mason’s paintings depict the juxtaposition of the natural and the man made. Plant life grows through cracks in the concrete while street lights expose dark corners. Drawn to environments that build on each other in fleeting symbiosis: fading, buffed out graffiti, flashing shop lights entangled with weeds, or trees that have been planted in median strips, she has come to see these paintings as portraits of contemporary “Nature” . These scenes are based on solitude moments of elation. Experiencing still moments while walking the night streets of Detroit, Mason captures the haunting and often overlooked landscape. Moisture in the air at night reflects the city’s light pollution causing bright purple skies, a beautiful and daunting collaboration of human and nature. Seared in the unconscious, Mason’s work will follow you into the evening night, leading to your own moment of rumination.
